Trucker charged with first degree murder for in-cab shooting death of fellow trucker in Michigan

Published:

On Monday, the Van Buren Township Police Department announced that charges have been filed against a semi truck driver following the fatal shooting of another truck driver found in the cab of his vehicle with the windows broken out last week.

Police responded to a semi truck parked in the 10800 block of Belleville Road of Van Buren Township, Michigan, at 1 p.m. on June 29.

When they arrived on scene, they found both side windows of the cab broken out and the 47 year old California-based truck driver inside the cab deceased from a gunshot wound.

Police obtained and reviewed video showing two individuals involved in a verbal altercation that ended when one of the people pulled out a handgun and shot the other.

From the video, police were able to determine that the shooter was also driving a semi truck.

Using township cameras, police were able to identify a license plate number for the semi truck.

The Van Buren Police Department was then able to locate the semi truck and arrested the truck driver soon after.

Police reported finding a weapon in the suspect’s semi truck.

The arrested truck driver was later identified as 39 year old Texas resident Mark Shaw.

On Monday, July 3, Shaw was arraigned on charges of First Degree Murder and Felony Firearm and was issued a $200,000 bond.
