Trucker ejected from cab during NDOT truck merge gone wrong

A truck driver was ejected from his cab during a wreck with a DOT worker trying to merge in North Carolina on Tuesday.

The accident happened on Tuesday, October 3rd in Nash County, North Carolina at around 1 p.m.

According to CBS 17, a North Carolina Department of Transportation truck pulled into the right lane of US 264 from the median and then tried to enter the right lane. The move into the right lane caused a tanker truck and several other vehicles to react quickly to avoid a collision with the NCDOT truck.

The sudden movement caused the tanker to swerve into the median and crash, ejecting the truck driver. The unnamed truck driver was killed in the crash.

US 264 East was shut down at mile marker 11 during the cleanup of the wreck. Crews pumped the fuel from the wrecked tanker to another truck so that the rig could be moved.

The road was reopened at around 6 p.m. No further information on the crash has been released.
