Trucker faces felony charges after troopers find guns during CMV inspection on NYS Thruway

Published:

New York State Police (NYSP) arrested a truck driver after guns were discovered during an inspection last week on the NYS Thruway.

At 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 7, New York State Police (NYSP) troopers with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit were conducting oversized vehicle inspections on I-90 in the town of Dunkirk.

While inspecting a 2007 Peterbilt registered in Arkansas, troopers found a Ruger Wrangler .22LR revolver in the driver’s side door compartment and a Glock 23 located in the sleeping area of the truck.

NYSP says that the Glock held a fully loaded 13 round magazine.

According to a NYSP Troop T news release, Arkansas-based truck driver Luis Corona Jr., 26, did not have a New York State pistol permit.

Corona was arrested and charged with two felony counts — Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (large capacity ammunition feeding device).

Corona was booked into the Chautauqua County Jail.
