Trucker hit and killed on highway while chasing after his dog

Published:

A truck driver was fatally struck by a car on Monday morning while chasing after his furry co-pilot.

The incident happened on Monday, June 26th in Kountze, Texas at around 6 a.m.

According to 6 KFDM, 61-year-old trucker Edward Joseph Farkas Sr. was pulled over on the shoulder of Highway 69 in front of Reed Ice Company and the Buy and Bye store to get some rest after having some mechanical issues. At one point, his trucking dog Buddy got out of the cab and ran away, prompting Farkas to chase after him. Both Buddy and Farkas were then struck and killed by an oncoming car.

Farkas’ son Edward says that he was retired from full time trucking but lived out of his truck and took occasional jobs to make extra money.

“I won’t sell his truck. I’ll fix it up like he wanted to. All donations will go towards cremation costs and taking him home to Louisiana and spreading his ashes at his favorite place,” Edward said.

No further information about the accident has been released.
