Trucker undergoes surgery after heart attack leads to hazmat spill wreck

Published:

Officials worked overnight to clear a hazmat spill caused by a semi truck overturn after the driver suffered a heart attack in Washington on Tuesday night.

The accident happened on August 8th at around 8:30 p.m. near Tyler, Washington.

According to KREM 2 News, the unnamed 62-year-old truck driver from Wyoming suffered a heart attack while driving on Interstate 90, causing his rig hauling liquid fertilizer to overturn. The ammonium nitrate liquid fertilizer leaked from the truck as a result of the crash, forcing the closure of I-90 and prompting an evacuation order in the area.

The roadway was closed through the night as crews worked to clean up the spill and right the overturned truck. The truck driver reportedly underwent surgery on Tuesday night. No further information on the driver’s condition has been released.
