Crews worked to separate two semi trucks smashed together on the side of Interstate 80 on Tuesday morning.
The accident happened on June 20th in Richmond, California at around 1:30 a.m. on I-80 at the westbound Potrero Avenue off ramp.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the truck hauling sugar rear ended the truck hauling carnival equipment on the shoulder of the interstate, smashing the trucks together.
The driver of the truck hauling carnival equipment was flown to the hospital with serious injuries. It is not clear if that driver was outside of their rig at the time of the incident. The driver of the truck hauling sugar did not sustain serious injuries, reported KTVU.
Two heavy wreckers were used to pry the trucks apart, and piles of sugar were left covering the roadway. No further information has been released.
