Published:

A truck driver and passenger were arrested on Thursday in North Carolina after a train vs. truck strike led police to discover drugs and alcohol inside the cab of the semi.

The train collision occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on June 8 in Wingate, North Carolina.

According to QC News, a semi truck hauling pallets of bricks got its landing gear stuck on a set of railroad tracks at North Main Street. An CSX train struck the trailer before the driver was able to free the struck vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Following the crash, police reported finding cocaine, an open container of alcohol, marijuana, and “magic” mushrooms in the truck.

Truck driver Patrick Rainey and passenger Dandris Lakes were arrested and both charged with felony possession of cocaine and felony possession of a Schedule I drug.

Police say that they do not believe that Rainey was impaired. Drugs and alcohol are not thought to be factors in the train collision.
