Two dead in fiery crash involving pickup, two big rigs, in Texas

Published:

Vega, TX Fire & Rescue released new video from a double fatality crash that occurred on I-40 on Monday.

The crash occurred around 7:40 a.m. on February 27 west of Vega, Texas.

Eighty-two year old California resident Olin Hood was in a GMC Sierra pickup stopped in an active lane of traffic on eastbound I-40 at mile marker 28 when he was hit by a semi truck driven by 37 year old Cain Rangel-Ramirez, also from California.

The crash sent the big rig driven by Rangel-Ramirez through a cable barrier in the median into traffic on westbound I-40.

The truck driven by Rangel-Ramirez struck a second semi driven by 31 year old Georgia resident Frantz Maxi. The second truck rolled over and burst into flames.

Both Rangel-Ramirez and Hood died in the crash.

Maxi and passenger Edwin Theodora, 28, were hospitalized but are expected to survive.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says that it isn’t clear why Hood was stopped on I-40.
