Two dead in multi-vehicle crash involving big rigs on Florida Turnpike


The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a double fatality crash that occurred on the Florida Turnpike on Friday.

The crash occurred on the morning of February 24 on the Florida Turnpike on Howey-in-the-Hills.

FHP says that two tractor trailers and four passenger vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at mile marker 286.

Officials confirmed that two people are dead.

Southbound traffic is being diverted off of the Turnpike at mile marker 289.

Traffic backups of seven miles have been reported in the area. Drivers should expect several hours of delays for the investigation and cleanup of the crash.
