Two dead in semi vs. tow truck crash on I-80 in Wyoming

Published:

The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) is investigating a double fatality crash that occurred early Monday morning.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m. east of Wamsutter, Wyoming.

Troopers say that 41 year old Houston, Texas resident Edgar F. Echeverria was driving a 1995 Kenworth west on I-80 when he lost control near mile marker 184, causing the truck to leave the interstate to the right. Echeverria then corrected left, which caused the Kenworth to overturn and enter the median, where it struck a tow truck recovering a previous slide-off.

WHP says that Echeverria was not wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries.

The tow driver, 45 year old Wamsutter, Wyoming, resident Kirby Lugg, was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the car that slid off I-80 was also transported to a hospital with injuries.

“Speeding too fast for road conditions on the part of Echeverria is being investigated as a possible contributing factor,” WHP said.
