VIDEO: K-9 ‘Diesel’ helps Florida cops capture suspected semi truck thief

Published:

Police in Ocala, Florida, shared body cam video of a police dog helping to capture a man who allegedly stole a refrigerated truck loaded with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of food items.

Around 10:40 p.m. on April 9, the Ocala Police Department (OPD) received a 911 call from a victim regarding a semi truck that was stolen.

The truck was equipped with a GPS tracker and police were able to locate the vehicle on Berkshire Oaks Plaza, about two miles from where it was stolen.

When the truck stopped near SW 43rd St. Rd., Alain Marti-Rosell, 39, exited the cab and ran from police toward a retention pond area.

“K-9 Officer Brinkley and his partner K-9 Diesel arrived on the scene and navigated through the retention area to track down the suspect. The terrain included trees, sloped areas, and a small body of water. Approaching a thicket of trees, Officer Brinkley spotted Marti-Rosell waist-deep in the water with his back turned towards him. With his hands hidden from view, Officer Brinkley commanded K-9 Diesel to take action, leading to a swift and successful apprehension,” OPD said.

Marti-Rosell was treated at a hospital for a dog bite, then taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was booked on charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft of cargo valued at $50k or more, grand theft, dealing stolen property, and resisting without violence.

Police say that the stolen truck was loaded with $200,000 worth of meat and seafood products.

“Officers also discovered the lock on the trailer had been cut and a box of tuna fish opened,” OPD noted in a news release.

OPD says that Marti-Rosell is not a U.S. citizen and does not have ties to anyone living in the Ocala area.
