A truck driver managed to stop in the nick of time to avoid a tragic collision with a motorist lying on the roadway.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 3rd at around 11:20 a.m. at the northeast mixmaster exit from I-35 southbound to I-80/35 westbound in Polk County, Iowa.

According to WHO 13, the incident was captured on camera as a car travels along the roadway with a rear door open and someone’s legs sticking out. After a moment, the car slows and the person falls all the way out of the vehicle, landing in the roadway.

The pickup truck traveling behind the car manages to pull onto the shoulder and stop. Miraculously, an oncoming semi truck driver also realizes what has happened and manages to come to a complete stop in just enough time to avoid a tragic incident.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that a passenger in the backseat of the vehicle tried climbing out of the car as it moved for reasons that are unknown. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of only minor injuries.
