A water truck driver was critically injured after a crash with a passenger train in California on Wednesday.
The incident happened on June 28th in Moorpark, California outside of Los Angeles.
According to CNBC News, the train was on its way to Los Angeles from Seattle when “it struck a water truck obstructing the tracks.” Fourteen passengers on the train were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was taken to a trauma center with head injuries.
The wreck derailed three train cars and demolished the Ventura County Public Works water truck. The crash also sparked a small fire beneath the train, which was quickly extinguished.
“There were approximately 198 passengers and 13 crew onboard who were evacuated from the train, with no reports of serious injuries,” Amtrak said in a statement. “Amtrak is working with customers to make alternate travel arrangements. Amtrak, in coordination with local authorities, is conducting a full investigation.”
