A wrong-way motorist is in critical condition after being pushed off an elevated highway in Houston overnight.
The accident happened on June 16th at 1:38 a.m. on the US 290 and Interstate 610 connecting ramp.
According to ABC 13 News, the wrong way motorist was likely leaving the downtown area when she entered the freeway going the wrong direction. Once she reached the connecting ramp, the motorist stopped in a moving lane of traffic, and that’s when her car was struck by a semi truck unable to avoid a collision with the stopped car.
The force of the impact knocked the car off of the elevated roadway, and it fell 18 feet onto a grassy area below. The woman had to be cut free from the wrecked vehicle and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The truck driver was not hurt in the accident. It is unclear if the woman was impaired at the time of the wreck.
