21-year-old trucker arrested for DUI in fatal head-on crash

Police say a 21-year-old trucker arrested for DUI was responsible for a head-on crash in Florida on Tuesday night. 

The accident happened on January 10th in Polk County, Florida at around 8:20 p.m.

According to Fox 13 News, 21-year-old truck driver Moyses Ramirez was heading south on Spirit Lake Road when his rig crossed the center line and struck a Hyundai driven by 27-year-old Chelsea Darwin head on. 

Darwin was killed in the collision. Ramirez was not hurt. During the initial investigation, officers issued a field sobriety test, which led to his arrest. 

Witnesses reportedly saw Ramirez throwing objects out of the cab of his truck prior to the crash. Deputies also discovered four empty beer cans near the crash site. 

Ramirez was arrested and charged with DUI, manslaughter, and tampering with evidence.
