$5.1 million in marijuana seized from commercial vehicle at World Trade Bridge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized more than $5 million worth of drugs from a commercial vehicle at a Texas border crossing.

The drug seizure took place on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas.

CBP referred a 2009 International tractor driven by a 38 year old Mexican citizen for a secondary inspection. A 33 year old passenger was also inside the truck.

Officers used a canine and non-intrusive inspection system to inspect the commercial vehicle and uncovered 98 packages containing a total of 2,323.67 pounds of suspected marijuana within the trailer.

The estimated street value of the marijuana is $5,198,328.

CBP seized the marijuana, truck, and trailer.

Both people in the truck were arrested.

“Frontline officers at the World Trade Bridge demonstrated exceptional effort in successfully disrupting this drug smuggling attempt,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “This large drug bust is a prime example of the efficient targeting strategies utilized in the cargo environment to help combat the flow of narcotics seeping into our communities.”
