Arkansas lawmaker wants to reward truckers who report human trafficking with free hunting license for life

An Arkansas lawmaker has filed a bill to incentivize commercial vehicle drivers to report human trafficking to law enforcement.

On December 9, Arkansas Rep. Steve Unger filed House Bill 1059 ahead of the new session starting in January 2025.

The bill, if passed, would provide a free lifetime hunting and fishing license to Arkansas commercial vehicle drivers who report human trafficking.

In order to qualify for the license, the information provided by the commercial vehicle driver would need to lead to either the rescue of a human trafficking victim or the conviction of an individual for human trafficking.

The legislation would then require the Arkansas State Game and Fish Commission to provide the qualified commercial vehicle drivers with lifetime hunting and fishing license with “an optional lifetime trout stamp and lifetime state duck stamp.” The Commission would then be reimbursed for this cost with state funds set aside for this purpose.
