Baltimore tunnel partially shutdown for semi truck fire

A tunnel in Baltimore was shut down during rush hour on Thursday after a semi truck caught fire at the entrance.

The fire happened on December 5th at the southbound Ft. McHenry Tunnel on Interstate 95 south at about 6:40 a.m.

According to WMAR2, the truck fire occurred at the southbound entrance to the tunnel, forcing the shutdown of both southbound tubes, and affected traffic on the northbound side as well. Drivers were diverted off of I-95 at Keith Avenue.

One tube of the southbound tunnel has been reopened for traffic, but cleanup of the wreckage and subsequent fuel leak continues.

The truck was hauling produce at the time of the fire. The truck driver sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
