A semi truck driver survived after crashing off an overpass in Illinois over the weekend.
The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 22, on northbound I-55, north of Rt. 30, in Plainfield, Illinois.
According to the Plainfield Fire Protection District, “Crews found the semi off the road and rolled over on the train tracks below I-55.”
The truck driver was able to self-extricate from the cab.
Firefighters say that the truck driver was transported to a hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The driver of another vehicle involved in the accident on I-55 refused treatment.
The truck’s cargo of chicken broth and disinfectant wipes spilled out during the crash.
The incident shut down train traffic in the area for an extended period of time as crews worked to clean up the cargo spill and remove the crashed semi truck.
The crash is under investigation.
