Big rig fell from upper to lower deck of I-70 in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado troopers say

Published:

A major commercial vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday in the Glenwood Canyon area, according to Colorado State Police (CSP).

The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on September 17 when a westbound semi truck rolled off the upper deck of westbound I-70, crashed through a guardrail, and fell down onto the lower deck carrying eastbound I-70, the Denver Post reports.

The truck driver was trapped and hanging by the seatbelt following the crash.

The truck driver has been hospitalized.

The crash forced the closure of both directions of I-70 between Exit 121 for Grizzly Creek and Exit 125 for Hanging Lake. Westbound lanes have reopened, but an extended closure is expected for the eastbound lanes.

Major traffic backups have been reported in the area.
