Texas-based travel center chain Buc-ee’s plans to open the company’s first ever travel center in Arizona.
The new Buc-ee’s travel center is coming to Goodyear, Arizona, south of I-10.
Buc-ee’s received approval to rezone a 71 acre property at the corner of Bullard Avenue and I-10 during a January 17 Goodyear Planning and Zoning Commission hearing. A portion of the 71 acres will be used for industrial purposes, according to zoning documents.
Buc-ee’s plans to build a 75,400 square foot travel center with more than 700 car parking spaces, according to a submitted proposal.
The popular travel center chain is famous for its expansive selection of road snacks like beef jerky and fudge. Buc-ee’s is also well known within the trucking community for non-trucker friendly store policies.
There’s no word yet on when construction could begin.
While Goodyear is home to many distribution and logistics centers, including those operated by Amazon, Boeing/XPO, Daimler Trucks North America, PepsiCo and more, Buc-ee’s does not provide truck parking at travel center locations.
Lake Jackson, Texas-headquartered Buc-ee’s currently operates 47 stores in Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and South Carolina, but this would be the company’s first location in Arizona.
Last summer, Buc-ee’s set a world record for the world’s largest gas station when they opened a 74,000 square foot store in Sevierville, Tennessee. Plans for the size of the new Goodyear store indicate that Buc-ee’s is shooting to break their own record.
