Published:

The Salinas Police Department (SPD) is investigating a recent incident that damaged a parked semi truck.

On October 31, 2024, the SPD issued a statement on a recent incident that garnered attention on social media.

In the video below, you can see dash cam and security cam video dated October 26 showing some sort of explosion rocking a parked semi truck in Salinas, California. You can also see a person taking video of two semi trucks damaged in the incident.

See below for the full statement from SPD on this incident:

As many have heard and seen a video was circulating the internet saying a “projectile” was shot at a big rig in Salinas.

We would like to inform the public that we do not take this lightly and we have been investigating the incident. Through the investigation so far and conferring with outside professionals, we were able to determine that it was possibly a commercial grade firework that caused this damage. We want to be clear this is not a bottle rock style firework, think more the level of a City putting on a paid 4th of July firework show level firework.

We also have found no indication it was a targeted attack. We do not believe there is any further danger to the public. We are grateful that no one was hurt during this incident.

We are still actively investigating this and ask that if anyone has any information to call Detective John Richardson at 831-758-7478. If you wish to remain anonymous, please call the Salinas Police Department Tip Line at (831) 775-4222.
