Cause of fire at trucking company that burned all weekend will probably never be determined, firefighters say

A trucking company that caught fire on Friday was burned so extensively that the cause of the fire will likely never be determined, firefighters say.

Firefighters were first called to G&H Motor Freight Lines in Greenfield, Iowa at around 4 p.m. on Friday, December 27th. Crews fought the fires through Saturday evening, but by Monday, December 30th, the business was on fire again, reported KCCI.

“We thought we had a pretty good job of it done Saturday by noon, where there really wasn’t hardly any smoke left,” said Fire Chief TJ Oder.  “We ended up dumping Saturday night roughly 12,000 gallons on what’s burning right now, and obviously that didn’t help.”

As of Monday evening, fire crews were continuing to monitor the fire, but were unable to take further action until the company’s insurance approves.

“The extent of the damage is so much on the end where it started that there’s not going to be able to be a real determination on how it really started,” Oder said, stating that the building was full of raw and powdered eggs, which have continued to feed the fire.
