Chicago cops issue alert after multiple robberies targeting parked semi trucks

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) issued an alert for trucking businesses following a rash of robberies targeting commercial vehicles.

The alert was issued July 11 after a series of semi truck theft incidents in the 9th District (Deering area).

“In these incidents, unknown offenders arrive in multiple vehicles, gain entry to the rear of semi-truck trailers and remove contents,” CPD said.

  • 4300 Block of South Packers Avenue on July 11, 2024 at 2:10 A.M.
  • 4300 Block of South Packers Avenue on July 11, 2024 at 3:06 A.M.
  • 4300 Block of South Packers Avenue on July 11, 2024 at 4:56 A.M.

Police are advising truck drivers and businesses in the area to take the following actions:

  • Be aware of surroundings
  • When parked, park vehicle in well-lit area
  • Report suspicious activity immediately
  • Keep doors and windows secured
  • Immediately repair any broken windows, doors or locks
  • If video surveillance is available, save and make a copy of the incident for investigating detectives.
  • If you are a victim do not touch anything, call police immediately
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information
