CHP calls for ‘focus’ after commercial vehicle strikes school bus, injuring 17 students

Published:

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is asking drivers to pay attention to the road following a commercial vehicle crash involving a school bus on Tuesday.

CHP – Modesto responded to the crash at 6:48 a.m. on October 15 on Crows Landing Road north of El Katrina Lane in the Modesto, California, area.

CHP says that a northbound school bus was stopped on Crows Landing Road with flashing red lights and stop sign activated. A Honda sedan was stopped at a safe distance behind the bus.

“The driver of a big rig combination failed to notice the stoped vehicles ahead and the front of their combination struck the rear of the sedan before striking the left rear of the bus,” CHP said.

Troopers said that all 17 students on the bus suffered minor injuries, but none required medical transport from the scene.

The Honda driver and the commercial vehicle driver were both transported to hospitals with minor injuries.

“FOCUS…FOCUS…FOCUS … The California Highway Patrol would like to remind all motorists to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Eliminate all distractions that may contribute to a lapse of being focused on the road. Drive to arrive,” troopers said.
