CHP says distracted car driver was dragged by big rig to next exit

Published:

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is asking drivers to remain alert behind the wheel after a car was dragged down the highway following a distracted driving crash.

CHP – Merced said on December 13 that the crash occurred on southbound State Route 99 near Atwater.

Troopers say that a motorist struck the rear of a semi truck “because the driver was texting while driving.”

After the crash the car “became lodged, and was dragged to the next exit.”

No serious injuries were reported.

“Texting while driving is a dangerous distraction that takes your hands off the wheel, your eyes off the road, and your mind off driving. It only takes a second for everything to change. Keep your phone out of reach and your attention on the road. That text can wait. Let’s all do our part to make our roads safer,” said CHP.
