Commercial vehicle travel restrictions in place in New York and Pennsylvania

Winter weather prompted truck travel restrictions in New York and Pennsylvania on Thursday.

With a lake effect snow system hitting the northeast, transportation officials in New York and Pennsylvania have restricted travel for certain types of commercial vehicles.

New York Truck Travel Restrictions

As of Thursday morning, empty and tandem tractor trailers are restricted on the following: 

  • NY Route 5 from NY 179 to I-190 (Erie County)
  • US 219 from I-90 to I-86 (Erie and Cattaraugus Counties)
  • NY Route 400 from I-90 to NY 16 (Erie County)
  • I-86 from US 219 to PA Line (Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties)
  • I-90 from I-190 to PA Line
  • Route 219 South is closed from I-90 in West Seneca to Peters Road in Ashord

Pennsylvania Truck Travel Restrictions

Tier 3 Vehicle Restriction – No CMVs except those with CHAINS ON BOARD is ACTIVE as of (Wednesday), 12/11/2024 at 11:00 PM for the following routes – I-86 and I-90

45 MPH Speed Restriction – is ACTIVE for the following routes – I-79 Exit 166 to PA 5, I-86 and I-90.
