Dash cam catches big rig rear-ending car, sending it flying into woods

Dash cam video shows a major crash involving a big rig that occurred on a Pennsylvania interstate last week.

The crash occurred on July 19 at 7:15 p.m. on I-380 near Dunmore.

In the video, you can see a box truck followed by a white sedan traveling at slower speeds in the right lane of I-380 with hazard lights activated. A red Mazda Miata driven by Patrick Ryder and a second white sedan both attempt to move left to avoid the slower vehicles. However, before the Miata can move over, it is hit from the rear by a semi truck, causing the car to veer left across the interstate into a wooded area.

Ryder told local news outlet WNEP that the driver of the semi truck fled the scene after the accident.

Ryder suffered non life-threatening injuries in the crash.

“Thankfully, there were good people that saved me from that ditch. I’m trying everything to find the guy responsible. My head and neck hurt and the pain continues to get worse. Mentally, I feel like I shouldn’t be here. I should’ve died in that car. Being rammed at such a speed from a semi in a Miata is not something you typically live through. I’m grateful to still be here,” Ryder said in a social media post.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Pennsylvania State Patrol-Troop R at 570-963-3156.

Ryder’s mother shared video of the incident, which you can view below.
