Dash cam catches semi trailer wheel detaching, hitting construction vehicle

Published:

Canadian police shared new dash cam video as a reminder to truckers of the importance of vehicle maintenance.

On August 20, Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) shared dash cam video from a stationary construction vehicle that was hit by a loose wheel.

From WPS:

A Close Call That Could Have Been Tragic …

In the blink of an eye, a semi-trailer wheel detaches, catapulting into a stationary construction truck before bouncing back onto the road in a reduced-speed construction zone on the south perimeter. The impact is so powerful that it visibly shakes the camera capturing the scene. Now, imagine that wheel hitting a nearby worker instead of the truck.

This video is a stark reminder of the importance of vehicle safety and the critical work done by our Vehicle Inspection Section to keep our roads safe. But there’s more at stake — these construction zones are not just sites of roadwork but someone’s workplace. Workers put their lives on the line daily to improve our roads. Let’s not make their job more dangerous than it already is.
