Driver trapped for an hour after crashing down embankment

Published:

A truck driver was trapped inside of his wrecked semi truck for nearly an hour in New York State on Thursday morning.

The accident happened on September 12th on Interstate 287 near Rye, New York at about 5:38 a.m.

According to My Rye News, the tractor trailer veered off of I-287 eastbound and crashed down an embankment, landing on the lower I-95/I-287 loop. The truck sustained serious damage in the accident, trapping the truck driver inside.

Police maintained contact with the trucker as crews worked to extricate him from the truck cab. The position of the truck led to a complicated rescue that required a repositioning of the fire equipment before the truck driver could be rescued from the wrecked rig.

After nearly an hour, the truck driver was freed from the wreckage and transported to a hospital with a head laceration. No further information about the crash has been released.
