Florida deputy injured after crashing under backing propane tanker

Published:

A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputy suffered injuries in a collision with a propane tanker truck on Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. on October 1 in Pasco County, Florida.

PCSO Deputy Dakota Dellechiaie, 32, was operating an agency-issued Chevrolet Tahoe on his way to start his shift.

According to PCSO, “A propane truck was in the roadway, backing into a driveway located at 15222 Hudson Avenue, when Deputy Dellechiaie’s Tahoe collided with the truck. The Tahoe traveled under the trailer portion of the propane semi-truck.”

Dellechiaie required extrication from the Tahoe. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of “very serious head injuries,” but is listed in stable condition.

“Deputy Dellechiaie was hired in 2019 and is currently assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau. He and his wife have four children. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this time,” PCSO said in a news release.

The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
