FMCSA knocks four ELDs off list of approved devices

On Wednesday, the  Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) removed four electronic logging devices, or ELDs, from the agency’s list of approved devices.

Effective December 11, 2024, the following ELDs have been removed from FMCSA’s list of approved devices:

Carriers using one of these devices should:

  1. Discontinue using the revoked ELDs and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.
  2. Replace the revoked ELDs with compliant ELDs from the Registered Devices list before February 9, 2025.

Motor carriers have a 60 day period to replace the revoked ELDs with an approved device. During that time, law enforcement and safety officials are encouraged not to cite drivers.

Starting on February 9, 2025, motor carriers who continue to use one of the revoked devices are considered to be operating without an ELD. FMCSA directs law enforcement officers to issue a citation for “No record of duty status” and to place the driver out-of-service.

“FMCSA strongly encourages motor carriers to take the actions listed above now to avoid compliance issues in the event that the deficiencies are not addressed by the ELD providers,” the agency said.
