Four hurt after wrong way truck driver failed to get off at nearest exit because “she did not think of that”

Four people were hurt and a truck driver was arrested after a wrong-way driving incident in Arizona over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 27th just before 3 a.m. near Wild Horse Pass Boulevard on Interstate 10 near Chandler, Arizona.

According to ABC 15, the 62-year-old truck driver left a truck stop and entered westbound I-10 heading the wrong direction. Multiple witnesses contacted police to report the wrong way truck driver, claiming that she put on her hazard lights and passed an “exit ramp that could have been used to exit the freeway and ease traveling wrong way.”

The unnamed female truck driver was reportedly involved in a head-on collision with a car that sent four people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver also reportedly came close to colliding with several other cars and one other tractor trailer.

Officers eventually pulled the truck driver over and placed her under arrest. While speaking with police, the driver told officers that she realized that she was going the wrong direction on the highway “immediately,” and turned her hazards on to alert other drivers. When officers asked why she did not exit at the first off-ramp she passed, she told them that  “she did not think of that.”

The unnamed driver was booked on charges of aggravated assault, endangerment, and reckless driving. No further information has been released.
