A county in Alabama has been awarded a large grant to aid in the construction of a new trucking company hub.
Dale County in Alabama was awarded a $180,000 Community Development Block Grant from the state to provide infrastructure for a new trucking facility for Averitt Express.
According to WDHN News, The new 21,200 square foot facility is expected to create 20 new jobs, and will include a service center and a warehouse. The land slated for development is located on Mance Newton Road off of Highhway 231. The county will use a portion of the grant to resurface part of Mance Newton Road.
“I am pleased to award this grant to the Dale County Commission to help prepare access to the 14-acre site where Averitt Express will be located and afford the company ample room to grow and hire more employees in the future,” Gov. Ivey said. “Averitt Express has a strong background with numerous fleet safety awards and will be a good addition to Dale County.”
Averitt Express plans to invest about $15 million in the new facility, which is only 1.5 miles from its current facility in Dothan, Alabama. Dale County has also pledged $36,000 in local funds for the project.
