Hazmat team called to truck stop fire over lithium ion battery concerns

Published:

A hazmat team was called to a semi truck fire at an Illinois truck stop due to concerns over lithium ion batteries.

The incident happened at around 1 a.m. at the Pilot in Oakwood, Illinois on October 22nd.

According to WCIA News, the truck caught fire, which quickly spread to the trailer and cargo inside. Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but a hazmat team was called due to concerns over lithium ion batteries becoming involved in the fire. It is unclear what the trailer was loaded with at the time of the fire.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire entirely by 4:30 a.m. No one was hurt, and the fire did not affect normal truck stop operations. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
