Head-on CMV crash on Christmas Eve leaves tow truck driver dead, teenage son injured

Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating a fatal head-on collision involving two commercial vehicles that occurred in Kankakee County.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. on December 24 near Grant Park, Illinois.

ISP said that two commercial vehicles crashed head-on at Illinois Route 17 and Bull Creek Road after one of the drivers lost control.

One of the drivers involved was operating a heavy wrecker for Ray & Wally’s Towing out of Lynwood.

According to the company, the tow truck driver died at the scene, and his 15 year old son was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.

“This is a sad time for our team and the families involved. We ask you to pray for the healing of his son and to bring his family some comfort in this tragic loss. May God be with our team as we work through this tragedy,” Ray & Wally’s Towing said in a social media post.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
