Lady trucker tails 12-year-old driving on I-15 until police arrive

A lady trucker made sure to keep an eye on a 12-year-old driving a stolen car until police arrived in an incident in Utah earlier this month.

The incident occurred on March 7th in Murray, Utah, but the 911 call was not released until this week.

According to KMYU News, troopers received a report of a reckless driver on southbound Interstate 15 at 2300 North from a concerned trucker who thought she was reporting a drunk driver.

“I believe I’ve got a drunk driver in front of my semi-truck. We’re currently going about 50 miles an hour and they are just swerving back and forth, their headlights are not on,” the unnamed truck driver said.

The 911 operator stayed on the line as the trucker provided updates on the situation until troopers could arrive.

“We’re down to 40 miles per hour, I’m staying behind them with my hazards on… We’re down to 35 miles an hour on the freeway,” the driver informed the operator, until finally “looks like he’s [the officer] about to grab ’em he’s right behind the vehicle.”

However, the 12-year-old driver did not stop for officers, and led them on a chase that reached speeds of up to 70 mph.

“They just sped up to over 65 please don’t crash, oh please don’t drive off the bridge,” the trucker said on the phone.

Troopers eventually deployed stop sticks and even performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle, which brought the 12-year-old motorist to a stop. Officers then arrested the girl and brought her back to the Murray Utah Highway Patrol Office before releasing her to her parents.

It is unclear what charges will be brought against her in the juvenile court system, reported 2 KUTV.
