The family of a woman killed in an alleged distracted driving crash with a JB Hunt driver has filed a lawsuit against the industry giant.
The fatal crash happened on May 22nd just before 5 a.m. on Interstate 35 northbound in Troy, Texas.
According to ABC 25, Tracy Rambosek ran out of gas in the right lane of I-35 and was stalled in the roadway when truck driver Barry Giebelstein ran into the back of her vehicle. Tracy was killed in the wreck. Giebelstein was driving for JB Hunt at the time of the crash.
Matt Greenberg, attorney for the Rambosek family, says that Giebelstein was filmed on a driver facing camera reaching to the left and touching what is apparently a cell phone just before the crash. Greenberg says that Giebelstein’s truck had a cell phone holder mounted right where he was reaching in the footage.
“We’re doing a download of the phone and we’ll be able to see what he was doing on the phone instead of paying attention to the road,” Greenberg added.
“We’re hoping to gain change in the industry,” Greenberg said, adding that the family is also seeking acknowledgement from JB Hunt regarding their drivers’ use of cell phones while driving.
“We’re trying to get justice and comfort for the family.”
