Major North American CMV driver blitz starts Sunday

Published:

The next Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) enforcement blitz is just days away — here’s what truckers need to know.

The yearly CVSA Operation Safe Driver Week enforcement effort will take place July 7 — 13, 2024, in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

During the week-long blitz, expect to see increased patrols targeting both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers.

Officers will be on the lookout for dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, aggressive driving, and drunk or drugged driving. Violators will be pulled over by law enforcement and warned or ticketed.

The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2024 will be reckless, careless, or dangerous driving, defined as “as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.”

During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, 11,448 commercial vehicle traffic stops were conducted. A total of 4,592 warnings and 2,634 tickets/citations were given to commercial motor vehicle drivers.

Truckers should also keep in mind that Brake Safety Week is also on the horizon. The yearly brake blitz is scheduled for August 25 — 31, 2024. During Brake Safety Week, commercial motor vehicle inspectors conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify brake-system violations.
