Idaho police arrested and charged a man in connection with an interstate shooting incident on Monday night.
Idaho State Police (ISP) responded around 8 p.m. on December 9 to I-90 at mile marker 0 near Post Falls for reports of shots fired towards vehicles on the interstate, KHQ reports.
Witnesses told police that they saw a man standing in the median near the pickup firing a weapon at passing vehicles on I-90.
“That’s when I saw a man shooting at the semi truck as it passed him and then into the roadway ahead of us. I could see the shots skipping off the pavement,” a witness told police.
No injuries were reported, but the semi truck was struck by gunfire, according to reports.
Troopers located and arrested pickup driver Wyatt Armstrong, 23, without incident. Officers found an AR-style rifle and a pistol in the pickup.
Armstrong told police that he’d shot 42 rounds. Police recovered 41 shell casings. Police also discovered a round lodged in the pickup’s radiator.
Police say that Armstrong said he had “a rough day at work” and was planning on taking his own life in Washington, but then his pickup broke down.
Armstrong was booked into Kootenai County Jail on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm, DUI, exhibiting the use of a deadly weapon, and disturbing the peace. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
