Massive tanker fire to shut down I-95 in Connecticut for ‘significant amount of time’

Officials are warning drivers to expect a long term closure on I-95 in Norwalk, Connecticut, following a fiery Thursday morning crash.

Around 5:30 a.m. on May 2, a petroleum tanker truck, a passenger vehicle, and a semi truck were involved in a crash on southbound I-95 underneath the Fairfield Ave overpass at Exit 15 in Norwalk.

Following the crash, the tanker truck caught fire under the overpass.

No serious injuries were reported.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont told drivers to expect both directions of I-95 to be shut down for a “significant amount of time” as crews inspect the structural integrity of the overpass.

Lamont said truckers should take I-87 or I-84 as alternative routes during the I-95 road closure.

This is a developing story.
