Memphis cargo thieves target truck hauling Nike products at red light

Published:

Memphis police are investigating a brazen cargo theft that occurred while a truck was stopped at a traffic light on Monday.

The incident occurred on June 24 near the Nike distribution center on New Frayser Boulevard in Memphis.

As a truck stopped at a traffic light at New Allen Road and Victory Ridge Road, three males opened the trailer and began moving Nike products into a gray Ford F-150.

When the light turned green, the truck continued into the Nike facility.

Police believe that the cargo thieves stole about $2500 worth of product.

“The door of the truck was open, and there were these guys running in and out, grabbing stuff out of the back of the 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18-wheeler had no clue. He was watching the light, you could see it,” Lyft driver Charles Moore told Fox 13.

Moore captured photos of the cargo theft in progress and followed the truck into the Nike facility to let the driver know what happened.

There have been several instances of cargo theft in Memphis this year.

On January 2 alone, Memphis police responded to a cargo theft incident at 3292 Holmes Road as well as the armed robberies of a FedEx truck on Winchester Road and a UPS truck on Summer Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.
