Michigan Motor Carrier Officers crack down on speeding in construction zone

Published:

Michigan State Police (MSP) issued dozens of citations during a recent commercial vehicle speed crackdown in a construction zone.

Last week, MSP Motor Carrier Officers (MCO) took part in an enforcement effort in the construction zone on I-75 between Erie Rd and S. Otter Creed Rd in Monroe County.

Police used a Michigan Department of Transportation truck parked on an overpass to measure speeds. Troopers in marked cruisers parked on the ramps then initiated traffic stops.

During the five hour detail, MCO made 28 traffic stops and issued 27 citations.

Of the 27 citations, two were for cell phone use.

Additionally, a driver was discovered using a “forged temporary registration.”

“The number of traffic stops were high considering a traffic stop by our MCO typically takes 20-30 minutes,” MSP said.
