Michigan roads will remain icy until this weekend after causing 86 crashes in 24 hours

Road conditions in the Metro Detroit area are not expected to improve until sometime this weekend according to the weather prediction.

Snow fell overnight and caused 86 traffic crashes across Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb, Michigan between Wednesday and Thursday, December 12th, reported WWJ News. Snow squalls, black ice, and whiteout conditions are expected to continue until highs potentially reach the mid 40s over the weekend.

Salt trucks have serviced many roads, but the temperature is expected to stay low enough that the ice on the roads will not melt, and wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph are expected Thursday, which has a predicted high temperature of only 22 degrees.

By Monday, December 16th, temperatures are expected to reach 50 degrees, but until then, Michigan State Police are urging drivers to “Slow down! Weather doesn’t cause crashes, drivers do!”

“Remember, you must stay 200 feet behind a snow plow and stop 20 feet behind if stopped at an intersection. Your paint and the snow plow drivers will thank you. You must move over a lane AND slow down 10 miles per hour below the posted speed limit!” MSP continued.
