Mob of people robs jackknifed semi truck after police, tow trucks fail to respond

Group of people robs jackknifed semi truck stuck in ice overnight after police and tow trucks fail to respond.

The semi truck jackknifed at Holmes Road and Tchulahoma Road in Memphis, Tennessee at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17th. The truck was not robbed until at around 7 a.m. on Thursday morning, January 18th, reported Action News 5.

“I just stopped in the middle of the road. The truck started going back and I slid. I jackknifed going into the ditch,” said Hassen Abagisa, the truck driver in the incident.

Abagisa told WREG that he called a tow truck and police the night of the wreck, but no one came to help him. The following morning, a group of people arrived on the scene and asked if he was okay before making a phone call.

After the phone call, more than 10 people arrived on the scene and tried to break into the trailer. When the driver confronted them, they left the scene. It is unclear what and how much was stolen from the trailer.

Police say there is no suspect information as of Thursday morning.
