Motorist dead after colliding with parked semi at Indiana rest area

Published:

Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at a rest area in Bartholomew County over the weekend.

The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. on November 2 on I-65 near Columbus, Indiana.

According to Sgt. Stephen Wheeles-Indiana State Police, 45 year old Indianapolis resident Omotope G. Oyediran was operating a 2011 Honda CRV traveling south on I-65.

When she neared mile marker 73 approaching the I-65 rest area, she left the interstate “for an unknown reason” and traveled into the rest area.

Once inside the rest area, the Honda collided with a parked 2020 International semi truck pulling a loaded box trailer.

The semi truck driver was inside the sleeper berth area of the truck when the crash occurred but wasn’t injured.

Oyediran died at the scene.

Troopers say that the crash remains under investigation. Toxicology tests are pending.
