Motorist killed in rear-end crash with semi trailer on Nevada interstate

Nevada State Police (NSP) are investigating a fatal two vehicle collision that occurred near Winnemucca last week.

The crash occurred at 5:18 p.m. on October 9 on I-80 at mile marker 155.

Officials say that a semi truck was traveling eastbound on I-80 at a slow rate of speed due to a wildfire.

A white Toyota Corolla driven by 65 year old Utah resident Lawerence Neely crashed into the slow-moving semi from the rear.

“The front of the Corolla struck the trailer and remained in contact with the rear of the trailer after impact,” Nevada troopers said.

Neely died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

An image shared by Nevada troopers shows a Celadon logo on the trailer involved in the crash. Celadon filed for bankruptcy protection and shuttered permanently in December 2019. The company’s equipment was later auctioned off.

The crash is under investigation by the Nevada State Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit. If you have information, you’re asked to call police at 775-753-1111.
