Nevada troopers to send geo-targeted messages directly to truckers through ELDs

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) announced a new program to deliver real-time alerts directly to commercial vehicle drivers through their Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).

On December 3, 2024, NHP announced the launch of a new program in partnership with Drivewyze to send targeted alerts directly to ELD devices, using geo-fencing technology to provide location-specific information.

Officials say that they will use the new system to provide truckers with updates on dangerous weather, chain requirements, high wind warnings, construction zone information, and traffic hazards, “in bold, high-visibility formats on drivers’ ELDs.”

Troopers say that the ELD alert system could be especially useful during the winter months in places like Reno, Carson City, and Tahoe.

“Nevada’s diverse terrain and challenging driving conditions, coupled with our position as a major transportation corridor, make initiatives like this essential,” said Nevada Highway Patrol Lieutenant Tappan Cornmesser. “With increased truck traffic and vital interstates running coast-to-coast, these real-time messages will help prevent crashes and improve safety for all drivers.”

“We’re proud to be at the forefront of using technology to improve highway safety,” said Cornmesser. “It takes just one jackknifed truck to shut down an interstate. This system allows us to proactively address hazards and keep traffic flowing smoothly.”

State Police in Michigan and California have recently rolled out similar ELD alert systems.
