Two people were killed and several others were injured in a train vs. semi truck collision in Pecos, Texas, on Wednesday evening.
Pecos city officials say that the crash involving a Union Pacific train and a semi truck occurred around 5 p.m. on December 18 near Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street.
From Union Pacific:
“At about 5 p.m. CT, an undetermined number of Union Pacific rail cars derailed after a train collided with a tractor trailer in the crossing near Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street in Pecos, Texas. There is no HAZMAT involved and the train crew is being evaluated by medical personnel. At least one person has died and another is seriously injured. We are working with local first responders at the scene.”
On Thursday, officials confirmed that two Union Pacific employees were killed in the train accident.
According to KOSA, the Pecos City Chamber of Commerce was struck by the train during the derailment.
Video captured by a passerby shows the train striking the truck.
The incident is under investigation by the Pecos Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Union Pacific.
