One dead in vehicle fire at an Illinois Love’s truck stop

Officials are working to identify a person who perished in a vehicle fire at an Illinois Love’s truck stop.

The fire occurred around 3 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, at a Love’s truck stop located in the town of Dwight in Grundy County, Illinois.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a fully engulfed cargo van in the truck stop parking lot. After the fire was put out, first responders found the the body of a male inside the vehicle, according to Grundy County Coroner John Callahan.

The identity of the male is unknown.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The fatal vehicle fire is under investigation.

This is not the only deadly overnight vehicle fire to occur at a Love’s truck stop in Grundy County recently.

According to the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, around 3 a.m. on November 30, 2023, two people from Arkansas died in an overnight RV fire at a Love’s truck stop in Morris, Illinois.

This fatal vehicle fire is also under investigation.
